Research Fellows in International Law

Applications are invited for Research Fellows to work either independently and/or under supervision. Initial appointments will be for one year with prospects for renewal and the Research Fellow will be expected to work from his/her home base. There is no monetary compensation for the work. The appointment as Research Fellow in itself will be a mark of distinction; and Research Fellows will be given upon satisfactory completion of work a Letter of Commendation for their work for ILNEAF.

ILNEAF is a newly established independent Forum endorsed by some leading International Law Professors from China, Korea and Japan. The objectives of ILNEAF are mainly the promotion, understanding, application and development of International Law as it applies in relations between China, Korea and Japan; and as it applies to Korea, China, and Japan respectively. The achievement of these objectives will contribute to peace, co-operation and development in the region; and in particular will assist policy makers within NEA as to how International Law and its development can contribute to facilitating peace, cooperation and development of the region. The forum will also enable (i) co-operation, discourse and fraternity as between international lawyers within the region, including the respective societies of international law within China, Korea and Japan; (ii) facilitate research in International Law in the context of NEA; and (iii) encourage future generations of International Law scholars to reflect about International Law in terms of NEA.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the building of ILNEAF; to hold a prestigious appointment working alongside distinguished scholars in Northeast Asia; and to contribute in a meaningful manner to the development of International Law in Northeast Asia. Applicants would normally have a PhD in Law with a background in International Law; good command of English and either Chinese, Korean or Japanese; and committed to scholarship and research in International Law in the context of Northeast Asia in particular. Applicants may be of any level of seniority. Applicants may apply directly. ILNEAF will also receive applications through nominations by ILNEAF members.

This is an ongoing recruitment exercise and ILNEAF will appoint suitable candidates as and when appropriate. Please apply with a full CV (with names of two referees) and a cover letter, by e-mail addressed to Professor Asif H Qureshi at Asif@Korea.ac.kr
