International Economic Law (IEL) and technology have an interdependent and exceedingly complex relationship. IEL and technology interact when rules encourage or interfere with development of technology or when international society decides that technology produces undesirable results and global norms must be used to modify those results. To complicate the matter, government regulatory interventions have emerged as a mixture of public interests and national economic and political strategies, which requires transnational coordination and greater levels of regulatory cooperation.
