An Islamic Law Analysis of Amendments to the Jordanian Traffic Laws
Jihad Mohammad Fisal Alnusairat

Abstract: The government has made various changes to the Jordanian Traffic Law in 2008 and then in 2023. The government has stated various reasons for the public interest in introducing these changes. This recent development note seeks to address the central question: What is the Islamic Sharia perspective on the amendments to penalties in the new Jordanian Traffic Law? It employs both inductive and comparative methodologies to address this question. The note concludes with several findings, the most significant being that the penalties outlined in the Jordanian Traffic Law—such as imprisonment, financial fines, and vehicle confiscation—align with Islamic legal provisions under specific conditions.
