The Green Islamic Approach on Environmental Sustainability: A Contemporary Perspective
The Green Islamic Approach on Environmental Sustainability: A Contemporary Perspective
Yasmine Abdel Moneim

Abstract: This article highlights the vital place of the environment in Islam and the inevitability of establishing an ideological link between global green principles and their compatibility with Islam based on a ‘faith-based approach’. This article shows that the Green Islamic approach on environmental sustainability emphasises the interdependence of and interaction between all living species as created in balance, having an ecological function and a correlative value that guarantee environmental sustainability and ensure the welfare of all humankind. The article demonstrates that considering Islamic environmental perspectives can help resolve contemporary environmental challenges and enhance ethical moral human environmental conduct, as they are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It concludes that Islamic environmental activism remarkably raises social and religious awareness of the environment. Furthermore, it affirms the importance of incorporating Islamic ethics into the national environmental legislation and decision-making process.
