The Role of Islamic Spiritual Values in the Contemporary Workplace

Abstract: This article explores the influence of workplace spirituality on innovative work behaviour in micro, small, and medium size enterprises (MSMEs), emphasising the role of Islamic spiritual values in the contemporary workplace. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research collects and analyses data from relevant literature, focusing on how honesty, justice, responsibility, and sincerity can create a work environment that fosters innovation. The research method involves thematic analysis of selected documents and articles, incorporating insights from various studies and best practices in applying Islamic spiritual values in the workplace context. The uniqueness of this study lies in its emphasis on spiritual values based on Islamic teachings, such as honesty, humility, and social responsibility, which are often overlooked in discussions about innovation in MSMEs. The findings indicate that workplace spirituality, integrated with Islamic values, enhances employee motivation and creativity and also strengthens a sense of purpose and commitment to social responsibility. By building a strong connection between spirituality and innovation, MSMEs can create a work environment that is productive but also ethical and sustainable. Thus, this article contributes significantly to our understanding of how spiritually grounded practices based on Islamic teachings can effectively encourage innovative behaviour in MSMEs while also suggesting a more holistic approach to human resource management.
