Abstract: This article analyses the blasphemy laws in Pakistan and Egypt. The article employs a comparative approach to the drafting and implementation of the blasphemy law in both jurisdictions. It argues that the laws are misused against religious minority groups and are used as a tool to revenge personal enmities. This discussion is contextualised in political Islam’s role in shaping the law and consequently heightened religious sentiments. The article concludes that the construction of the blasphemy laws in Pakistan and Egypt needs reform to safeguard vulnerable groups from its misuse and misapplication.
