Preliminary Remark
Alerted by reports of Pakistani human rights organisations, the International Federation for Human Rights decided to send an international fact-finding mission to Pakistan. Dr Anne-Christine Habbard (France), stayed in Pakistan from 7 to 20 August 2004, and from 18 November to 8 December, 2004. The aim of the mission was to gather all relevant information on the human rights situation in Pakistan, in particular regarding the freedoms of expression, association and assembly. She is the author of this report. The mission was preceded by a preparatory mission from 7 to 17 October 2003, composed of Sara Guillet, lawyer (France) and Puravalen Muthu Raman, lawyer (Malaysia).
