The rule of law is at the same time a very old and still yet very modern concept. The ancient Greek philosophers already reflected on it, most knowingly Plato and Aristotle, followed by enlightened scholars, such as Thomas Hobbes and John Adams, until today’s emphasis on the rule of law stems from the United Nations through its creation of a specific Rule of Law Unit.

 

The following article will address the rule of law as a possible focus of the work of the ILA Committee on Islamic Law and International Law which has addressed it in its last report of 2010
