Abstract: This article tackles the critical issue of plagiarism within the context of Shari’ah and Algerian law. The pursuit, investigation, and acquisition of knowledge fundamentally drive academic research. Researchers strive to advance knowledge by adding to or modifying existing information. However, the widespread occurrence of plagiarism among students, researchers, and even university professors undermines the credibility of scientific research and infringes upon the rights of original authors. It is crucial to examine this phenomenon, identify its causes, and propose mechanisms to eliminate or reduce its occurrence. This article argues that plagiarism is a significant issue in academic research, undermining the credibility of scientific work and violating the rights of original authors. The article makes the case for plagiarism as a crime under Shari’ah and examines Algerian law on the matter. By exploring the reasons behind the spread of plagiarism, the article proposes mechanisms to combat it, including imposing effective penalties on perpetrators, conducting awareness campaigns, and providing training for students and researchers.
