Abstract
Introducing the topic of nuclear energy with a brief history of the development of peaceful nuclear energy research, followed by the harnessing of the power of the atom to create weapons of mass destruction. The article will then move towards discussing the purpose of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and assess it’s effectiveness in the international community, with particular focus on the three pillars and how well they are being adhered to. Finally, the article will conclude by bringing together the findings and making an overall assessment on the effectiveness of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty at present.
